A special memorial tree planting event is to take place in Stornoway today, 201 trees are to be planted along the avenue leading to the War Memorial, in remembrance of the number of men who died in the Iolaire tragedy.
The community have been invited to come along to help put the trees in the ground at the site, just above Memorial Avenue where a wide path leads to the War Memorial.
The project has been organised by the Woodland Trust Scotland in partnership with Point and Sandwick Trust and The Stornoway Trust.
It will be the last official planting event in the Woodland Trust’s four-year ‘Centenary Woods’ programme, which has run across the UK from 2014 to 2018, to commemorate all those involved in the First World War.
The planting at the War Memorial today will be split into two stages, with the first session beginning at 11am and the second at 2pm.

Stornoway Amenity Trust (S.A.T.) will show Stornoway at its best over the Festive Season. The Western Isles Lifestyle Lottery Team have presented the SAT Committee with a cheque for £8,500.00. The funds are the proceeds from Supporters of the Lottery throughout the Broadbay Area. S.A.T have also been sponsored by Lewis Wind Power.

The lights switch-on Event is at 7.30pm Friday 7th December starting at 4.30pm when the Town Hall doors open to the public. In addition to Xmas Stallholders, the first of two, free, Xmas Show Performances by Dazzling Entertainments is scheduled for 5pm. With the second performance at 8.15pm

Santa will be piped into Stornoway Civic Square by the Lewis Pipe Band and this year he will be accompanied by a Torch Lit parade, LED Winged Dancers, Neon Lit Bikers and more.

A Santa Dash and Character Fun Run is scheduled for 6.30pm leaving from the Pier and some local stores and cafes will also be open for the event.

Youngsters can visit Santa in his Grotto at Pointers Youth Cafe.

Community Energy Companies based in Point and Sandwick are developing a series of wind farms on common grazing lands south west of Stornoway. The planned wind farms are located in the following areas:

Ten 5 MegaWatt turbines, located north of Achmore (Sandwick East Common Grazings, Sandwick East Community Energy Company Ltd.),

Eight 5 MegaWatt turbines, located southwest of Marybank (Melbost and Branahuie Common Grazings, Melbost and Branahuie Community Energy Company Ltd.) and
Two 5 Mega Watt turbines, located adjacent to Creed Enterprise Park (Aignish Common Grazings, Aignish Community Energy Company Ltd.)

Public drop in sessions will be held in Stornoway Town Hall on the following days:

26th November, 10am – 8.30pm and 27th November, 10am – 8.30pm

Project representatives will be available to answer questions and provide additional information on the proposals.
The two consultation events are to provide an opportunity for the public to ask any question.
